Toilet Paper Roll Bunnies

What says spring like pastel colors and cute little bunnies? The other night I pulled out some craft supplies that were shoved into the top shelf of my craft closet and was inspired to make so many new spring crafts and decorations. These cute little toilet paper roll bunnies were one of my late night creations and they are a great adult OR kid craft! I know with a little help my kindergarten and preschool aged boys could make some super cute bunnies. Start saving up your bathroom tissue rolls!

How to make Toilet Paper Roll Bunnies-

Supplies:
  • Cardboard toilet paper rolls
  • White, brown and pink acrylic paint
  • Foam brush
  • Tiny paint brush
  • Scissors
  • White cardstock (outside ear)
  • Colored cardstock (inside ear)
  • Rubber cement
  • Twine, button and mini clothespin (optional)
Directions:
  • Start by folding the ends of one side of the toilet paper roll in to make a curved shape similar to a pillow box.
  • Using a foam brush paint the toilet paper roll white. Once the white paint is dry use a tiny paint brush to add the details of the bunny face – two oval eyes, whiskers, mouth and a triangle nose.
  • Fold a piece of white cardstock and cut out two long curve shapes for the ears. Repeat with colored cardstock making them slightly smaller than the white shapes. Use rubber cement to glue the colored cardstock over the white.
  • Fold the bottom tip of each ear and use the rubber cement to attach to the top of the toilet paper roll. You can glue them to the outside or inside of the folded roll (see pink versus blue eared bunnies).
  • Embellish your bunny with twine, buttons, mini clothespins or a paper carrot!

Blog and Shop Updates– 20% Off Code

Happy Saturday! Have you noticed a few changes around here? I made a few behind the scenes changes and updated the Craft and Recipe sections of the blog over the past month! They are completely updated and split up into categories so you can easily find what you are looking for! Also – have you noticed that I changed the email subscription? The email subscription is going out once a week on Thursday mornings and has excerpts from all the posts I added the previous week. If you are a subscriber I apologize that some of them have been a little wonky – I am still getting used to manually updating it!!

I have added quite a few new products to the Poofy Cheeks Shop the past few weeks too including one of my favorite organization items – chalkboard labels!! I use them for everything from pantry labels to craft supply labels. They dress up recycled jars like none other and because I love you all so much I am offering 20% off everything in the shop this week when you use the coupon code ‘justbecause2014’ at checkout!

Life Inspired Link Party #6 and Features

Life is crazy and hectic right now and I am sure most of you are feeling the same way! The end of summer means a change in schedule around our house. Thankfully we got all of our school supply and clothes shopping finished up for my boys last week but now I have been trying to get the them used to their new sleep schedule. So far it isn’t working out too well, so it looks like I am going to have to turn into a mean mommy the next few nights. I will have to be a stickler about having them in bed with lights off at 8:30 the rest of the week. School starts on Monday and I know the first few days are going to be rough (on all of us)! What time do you make your kiddos go to sleep on school nights?

Enough about mean mommy – time for Life Inspired Features! I love looking through all the links every week. I visit each one and am amazed and inspired by the community I belong to! This week there were a few brightly colored projects and recipes that stood out to me – (I guess this is my way of mourning the end of summer!?)

Kids Construction Paper Activities for a Rainy Day

Last month I guest posted over at Paging Supermom with a Super Tip. I shared how I use construction paper to occupy my kids on a rainy day. My boys are filled with tons of energy, and when we can’t go outside and play I need a way to keep them busy indoors.

My two boys are four and five-and-a-half years old so I let them use safety scissors, but I still do the majority of the cutting for them. With the help of a glue stick they make construction paper collages and paper chains. When they use up the glue stick or get bored with that I introduce a piece of chalk, crayons and markers. I find that by giving them new items here and there, instead of everything at the beginning, it keeps them interested longer.

For older kids challenge them to create a scene or shapes with their paper. My grandma used to ask us to create a page for each season or create pictures of everyone to use as their placemat with dinner that evening.

When my boys just have way too much energy, I create a hopscotch with construction paper and washi tape. I tell them to pretend they are outside at a playground and give them 15 minutes to jump, hop and use their outside voices. I usually do this right before it is time to put their baby sister down for a nap so I can convince them to stay busy doing a quiet activity next.

There are so many possibilities with construction paper, when it comes to the price, you just can not beat it! Not only do my boys have fun using the paper, they learn while using it too. When they create things with it they refer to the paper by color and their fine motor skills are being put to the test as they cut and glue pieces.
