I was reading an article this morning about the five types of moms you will find on the first day of school. I am definitely not the nervous or emotional mom - I am 100% the excited mom who is looking to get back into a routine! This summer has been fun and challenging at the same time. Mike's job has kept him on a crazy schedule often working 7 or more days in a row while I hold down the fort. We have had a chance to get out and have some fun too though. We made two day trips to Disney World, hit up every local splash pad, gone swimming at Grandma and Gramp's pool, visited family night at a local water park and next week we are going to Georgia for the weekend to visit family.
Over the next week I will be cracking down and planning grocery lists and trips for back to school foods and supplies. I will be stocking up on quick breakfasts, healthy lunch choices and after school snacks to fuel my busy bodied boys. I like to have lots of breakfast options because I remember my mom offering us lots of cereal. Since there is nothing better than a delicious hot breakfast when I have to be up early I am grabbing things like Jimmy Dean breakfast bowls and breakfast sandwiches to get us going. They are yummy and I can have them ready in the time it takes my boys to get dressed for school. While I am trying to get myself awake the first few weeks of school I don't have to worry about breakfast prep or clean up. I will only have to worry about being presentable enough to walk them down the bus stop and making sure they don't try to sneak out of brushing their teeth in the mornings. Anyone else have this problem?
For the first day of school I am planning to surprise the boys with a mini Back to School breakfast party. You might have seen on my instagram feed that I found a few fun things in my party supply drawer to decorate our kitchen with and I am going to surprise them both with a new pencil box with extra special supplies inside. You know... the supplies they ask for and you repeatedly say no?
Since bacon is a family favorite in our home I picked up the Jimmy Dean Bacon Breakfast Bowl and the Bacon, Egg and Cheese breakfast sandwiches during my last trip to Publix. I think those will make everyone happy on the first day of school when we all have to wake up at 6:30 in the morning!
Sounds like I have breakfast under control but now I have to figure out lunches. Lunch is always the hardest for me. I want the boys to have something healthy but I don't want to bore them with a ham sandwich every single day. What do you pack your kiddos for lunch?
