#VivaLaRita at Bahama Breeze

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Bahama Breeze for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.

Last Friday night we loaded up our family of six in our minivan and headed over to Daytona Beach for dinner. Friday was the boys’ first day of Spring Break so we wanted to start it out with something special. We went to Bahama Breeze Viva La Rita which happens to be right across the street from the Daytona Speedway (if you are a Nascar fan then you know what track I am talking about)! We arrived around 5:30 since we knew their Friday night #VivaLaRita festivities started at 6pm. It was a beautiful night with perfect weather so we took advantage of their outdoor dining and the live music. We sat at a table right next to the steel drum players and all of the kids enjoyed watching them play.

Since we arrived during Happy Hour (yahoo!) my husband and I ordered three different appetizers at half price and also took advantage of their drink specials. I ordered the Bahama Rita and he ordered a Pina Colada. The Bahama Rita was so delicious that by the time we left I had two of them. I am a fruity drink person and don’t enjoy strong drinks at all – their drinks were perfection.

Dining out with all four of our kids isn’t always a fun experience. While I would like to think our kids all have good manners sometimes the boys don’t want to sit still or listen, Delilah wants to exercise her rights to act out with terrible twos and Emmett is a baby so you never know when he might be hungry, tired or cry until he is held. I don’t think this is any different than any other children but since we have FOUR kids I feel like people are watching us closer and our chances of someone acting up are more likely. Sometimes out to dinner or at the grocery store I feel the stares as people talk under their breath and it is obvious they are talking about us. Are they saying, ‘Oh my gosh they have four kids’ or ‘if that was my kid…’ but every now and then they will stop over and talk to us about having four kids because they feel like it is a rare thing these days. All I know is that before we get out of the car when we are going out in public we always do the pep talk about best behavior. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t work. Thankfully Friday Delilah had a good nap, Emmett was well behaved watching the fans and listening to the music through most of the dinner and our older boys were on their best behavior. Dinner was enjoyable!

I think the fact that we ate on the patio where things didn’t feel as formal was part of the reason the kids were so well behaved. We weren’t worried about them talking quietly or crawling around in their seats like we would have been inside. Not to mention our service was great (which hasn’t seemed to happen very often lately). Our cups were never dry and all of the food came quickly.

The food was right on par. The carribean flavors were a change from the ordinary and paired perfectly with carefree atmosphere. We started out with three appetizers; coconut shrimp, beef empanadas and skillet simmered jerk shrimp. Between Mike, the kids and I everything was devoured rather quickly.

Besides for the live music they also had a bar set up at the door with employees wearing ponchos and passing out mini sombrero hats to guests. I felt like I was at a beachside restaurant and we were miles from the nearest beach!

The drinks didn’t disappoint. I started with the Frozen Bahamarita and it was so good I went on to have a second. My husband tried the Pina Colada and a Pineapple-Coconut Martini. We tried each others drinks and if we were out without the kids I would have ordered them for myself.

Mike likes to order beef empanadas whenever we go to a place that has them on the menu. They remind him of the times when we first had Wyatt and would leave and work for Miami for days and weeks at a time. He hated leaving us at the time but now he holds on to the good memories from those trips. They used to eat empanadas from the street carts and his crew had a lot of fun hanging out after work every day.

All of the kids drank a sweet tea and ordered the Bowtie Mac’ N Cheese. The portions were huge and if I would have known I would have had the boys share with Delilah instead of ordering her a plate too. We brought home tons of Mac’ N Cheese leftovers and Wyatt said their chef was the best because it was so good. Happy kids make for a happy momma.

Since I ate quite a bit from the appetizer plates I ordered a small plate of conch fritters for my main dish. Mike ordered the Jerk Chicken Pasta and it was creamy and flavorful with just the right amount of spice.

Delilah didn’t make it in this picture because she was off to the side eating but we had such a great time I asked the waiter to take our picture after our meal. Mike and I honestly can’t wait to go back with or without the kids. My sister raved about how good their food was and my brother worked at Bahama Breeze where he had treated my parents so we were the only ones who hadn’t tried it yet. I give the entire experience a big thumbs up. Bahama Breeze is the perfect place to go if you are celebrating a special occasion or even if you just want a quick date night. If you head out with your family between now and Cinco de Mayo, May 5th, make sure you go on a Friday night for the Viva La ‘Rita live music and fun!
