Fourth of July Burlap Wreath Tutorial

I made my first burlap wreath this year and fell in love with it. I made a plain brown burlap wreath and I can easily change out the embellishments for any season or holiday. Last month I was in Walmart and passed an isle end cap with blue and red chevron burlap. I knew it had to come home with me for a patriotic 4th of July wreath! If you are looking to make an easy and quick wreath this one is your guy! I am showing you the full tutorial on how easy it is to weave the burlap through a wire wreath form to make your own. • (3) 6-8 foot rolls of burlap (found at Walmart or at any craft store)
  • 12-15 inch wire wreath form
  • Scissors

**If you are going to add the paper pinwheels you will also need the supplies listed HERE. Fourth of July Burlap and Pinwheel Wreath - a full picture tutorial on how to make a burlap wreath included. Step 1: Weave the burlap through your wreath form starting from the middle and working to the outside by going under/over/under over the wire. Pull just a few inches through to secure the end. Step 2: Turn the wreath form over and weave the burlap underneath to secure it. You can add glue if you want but I prefer not to work with any more supplies than I have to. ((Plus I might get sick of it and want something different next year LOL)). Fourth of July Burlap and Pinwheel Wreath - a full picture tutorial on how to make a burlap wreath included. Step 3: Now you are going to take the unsecured end of the burlap and wrap it down and through the form going over/under/over/under the wire. To create the bubbled look you will want to leave a little extra burlap when you wrap it down and pull through. Step 4: Repeat step three by wrapping around and weaving through alternating through the form by going over/under/over/under. Even though you are going over/under/over/under you will see that you are doing it on opposite wires which will help hide the wreath form as you go along. IMPORTANT NOTES: Each time you weave a new row pull a little bit of excess burlap from the wire where it is wrapped ‘over’ to help create the bubbled look and to further hide the wire from the spots where the burlap is wrapped ‘under’. How much you choose to pull through is up to you but the more you bubble it the more burlap you may need and be sure to pull even amounts throughout the wreath of it can look lopsided in the end. (speaking from lopsided experience here!) Each time you weave you also want to push that row up and scrunch it up. The little cross wires on the wreath will hold each section in place every 6 inches or so but squeezing in the last row can be a bit tricky. When I did this wreath I originally only bought two rolls of burlap and I was left with this – I had to make another trip to Walmart for a third roll in order to finish. Lesson to learn here = buy 3 rolls of burlap because you can always return one! Fourth of July Burlap and Pinwheel Wreath - a full picture tutorial on how to make a burlap wreath included. When I was finished with my wreath I embellished it with paper pinwheels that I stuck on with pins so that they can also be easily removed if I decide to change out the embellishments or change the wreath all together. You can find the paper pinwheel tutorial HERE. Fourth of July Burlap and Pinwheel Wreath - a full picture tutorial on how to make a burlap wreath included. The wreath looks great against our newly painted white front door! It really is THAT simple but I do suggest wearing some old clothes and making this in a place where the bits of burlap can easily be cleaned up. As you pull the burlap through the form little bits of fabric seem to fly all over the place.
