Our Home Command Center: $30 Project

Earlier this week I shared 20 Inspiring Home Command Centers and today I am sharing OUR home command center! I wanted a place where the boys could drop their book bags, I could hang a purse and diaper bag and my husband could put his keys and work uniform without it all piling up at the front door and on the kitchen counters. I wanted organization! I wanted a place to put a daily to do list, grocery list and plan out our weekly meals. Since our entryway is rather nonexistent I opted to put the command center in our laundry room which is sort of like a hallway leading through to the garage. We go in and out the garage more than half the time anyways so it is the perfect solution. Plus when we are having company I just make sure the door to the laundry room is closed and everything is out of sight.
For the entryway my inspiration was chalkboard, cork and gold. The  chalkboard touches give it the feel of vintage that blend with the décor in the rest of our house but the gold gives it a little bit of fun! I like it because it is different and a lot more welcoming than the plain wall that it once was. Overall I was able to purchase everything I needed to create this command center for right at $30.

Creating an Inviting Entryway: Simple is Pretty

Hey – I’m Sandra from Simple is Pretty! In our new house, something was missing in our front entrance. I was unsure how to complete the space but then after a chaotic trip to IKEA we found a solution.

Life Inspired Link Party #3

It is Wednesday! After looking through all of the inspiration linked up to Life Inspired last week I was really crushing on the home décor projects. I picked five of my favorites to feature below. Take a look through them and feel free to join us by linking up your project or looking through the projects done by others at the end of this post! party

A Day in My Shoes

This shop is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group™ and Jelly Beans but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #JellysAreBack http://cmp.ly/3/8vNxcO

Shoes – Have you noticed that feet and eyes are the first things you look at when you see someone? You give them the once over whether you know them or not, like them or not. I dated a guy in high school that brought this to my attention and I have never forgotten it. To tell the truth half of the time I am wearing flip flops that have seen better days so as people look to my feet I probably give the wrong impression by my shoes. I sure don’t give the message of ‘Hey, I am a creative and crafty person living in a DIY decorated home selling my trendy hair ties all over the world’ HA! Then Jelly Bean shoes enter the scene. Full of memories, fun and their look seems to match my personality to a T!

A Day in My Shoes: #JellysAreBack

I am a little quirky, a bit of a nerd, but on the other hand I am outgoing and spunky. I think a pair of Jelly shoes says I am a child at heart, creative, fearless and fun. If I had to pick a message to send people without speaking a word that would be the one I would chose. If my Jelly shoes are part of my first impression I may never take them off especially since they also seem to go with everything! I can dress them down in a pair of shorts or dress them up in a skirt. I can wear them on my frequent trips to Target or out to dinner with my husband. I can sport them at the beach or even spend a day in them at Disney World.

Right now if you were to spend a day in my pretty glitter Jelly Bean shoes you would know that-

  • I have not felt like cooking dinner lately
  • I am waiting and stressing on a check to come that should have been here a few weeks ago
  • My husband is having surgery next month to remove a part of his colon
  • Every few months I plan out our bills in advance and today was that day
  • I am only a few sales away from 500 in my ETSY shop
  • I sold 145 Santa sacks on Groop Dealz last week and I will be spending the next few weeks parked in front of my sewing machine
  • I keep playing We Can’t Stop by Miley Cyrus on YouTube because the We Can’t Stop, We Won’t Stop explains how I am feeling right now
  • My brother, sister and I are collaborating on a lifestyle blog together
  • I have been in an organizing mood lately – sorting through piles of mail, the kids’ clothes and my craft closet
  • I have seriously worn my Jelly Bean shoes every day since they arrived last week
  • This past Sunday evening with my entire family was perfect – pool, food and laughter
  • I am painting a few canvases for my brother’s new apartment and I forgot how therapeutic painting is to me

A Day in My Shoes: #JellysAreBack

Jelly Bean shoes started selling in the US on July 20th and they currently have thousands of them in all of their lovely colors here and ready to ship! I might also throw in that they are offering FREE SHIPPING in the US! I remember wearing these babies as a kid and when I wore them to my parents house for dinner Sunday night my mom commented that I had a pair just like these when I was little.

You can follow Jelly Beans on TWITTER | FACEBOOK | INSTAGRAM | PINTEREST

So tell me what would be happening if I spent a day in your shoes?

8 Months Old with a #HuggiesSlipOn Coupon & Target Gift Card Giveaway

This post is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group® and Huggies, but all my opinions are my own. #HuggiesSlipOn #pmedia http://cmp.ly/3/8vNxcO

My sweet Delilah is 8 months old. Where does the time go? Everything we have been through together in these last eight months has created such a strong bond between the two of us. From spending her first week after birth in the NICU then five days in the PICU when she had RSV, we have spent a lot of one-on-one time together! She is spoiled to say the least. We very rarely leave her with anyone because she won’t take a bottle and even when I let somebody else hold her she is always looking around to make sure I am right there. The few times I have left her with my parents she has screamed and cried when she saw me leave. Luckily she will at least let my husband Mike hold her and put her to sleep so I can get some sort of break.

She is at the age where it feels as if she is doing something new each day. Her bottom teeth are just about to break skin, she has mastered rolling and sitting, is beginning to stand with support and she has started scooting and trying to push up on all fours. Her brothers say that can’t wait until she can walk, but I know once she starts walking into their room and grabbing toys it will be a different story.

With her in this new scooting stage I have to constantly make sure that they boys keep all of their little toys picked up. Just this morning she rolled onto the tile floor in her jammies and started scooting herself backwards into the kitchen. I had to go catch her after recording it on my phone for Mike to see.

I personally feel like this is the stage when you really need to start diapering your baby with a brand you trust because instead of just playing in one spot they are moving their little bodies all over. Right now we are using the Huggies Slip On diapers because I can stand her up to pull them on without worrying about her trying to roll over as I try to attach the sides. When I had first heard of the Huggies Slip On diaper all I could think about was the mess of slipping off a dirty diaper but I should have known that Huggies is smarter than that! There are little tabs on the side you gently pull when you are ready to remove it. I think the slip on diapers are perfect for her age because they give more coverage for leak protection on the sides and have more stretch to conform to her busy little body.

My little chunker is weighing in at 19 pounds and after a lot of debate it looks as if her eyes are going to stay brown. For a while we thought they might be green like Mike’s. She is wearing size three Huggies diapers and size 12 month clothes. The clothing selection in her closet is getting slim too, so I think it is time for us to go do some mommy-daughter shopping! I was trying to find a few pairs of shoes for her last week, but like when the boys were babies I can’t find shoes for her chunky feet!

She is still breastfeeding and also eating baby food. We have introduced Cheerios and she really loves trying to pick them up and eat them herself. She wakes up once in the night to eat and goes right back to sleep. As long as her brothers don’t wake her she takes two to three decent naps a day.

I am just so head-over-heels for this little girl that it isn’t funny! After I had Wyatt and was pregnant with Mason I asked my husband how you can love your child so much and then have enough love for another. Then when I was pregnant with Delilah I asked again. Somewhere and somehow your ability to love grows and you find enough love for all of them. Being a mom to three kiddos is hard at times, I get stressed, I admit sometimes I yell but the one thing I do every day is make sure that I tell my kids I love them.

COUPON ALERT! If your little is still wearing diapers today is your lucky day – click HERE for a $2 off Huggies Slip On Coupon which can be used at Target. Seriously I think diaper coupons are the equivalent of gold! I try to find one every time I have to purchase a pack!

GIVEAWAY ALERT! As an added bonus I am also giving away a $25 Target gift card so you can purchase your own pack of Huggies Slip On diapers (or anything else you love from Target!). Use the rafflecopter widget below to enter and remember you might need to wait a few seconds for it to load.

20 Inspiring Home Command Centers

I am creating a command center. School will be back in session before we know it. This year Wyatt will be in kindergarten and Mason will be in Pre-K. Last year I was so emotional about sending Wyatt to Pre-K, but this year I am so excited to be sending two of my three off to school. Maybe it is mean of me or maybe it is because this summer I have been here with them the entire break and I am nearing my wits end. I am so thankful that I am able to work from home with the kids, but with all three of them and no job outside of the home to escape to (even if it is just for a little bit) has me frazzled. I can’t start a project, a blog post, an order or a sentence without being interrupted a zillion times by Mason hit me, Wyatt took my pencil, I want a drink or my personal favorite come wipe my butt.
I have found myself thinking long and hard about how I am going to manage getting both of the boys up, dressed, fed and dropped off at school on time all while carting around a 9 month old. The only solution I can think of is a consistent routine and a command center where the boys can grab and drop off their book bags each day. Two nights ago I stayed up in bed while everyone else slept and pinned command centers to my hearts content. Today I went out and bought everything I needed to create one in our laundry room. The only other thing I need are hooks for the boys’ coats and book bags. My husband said I am a nerd but I say he is as messy as the rest of them and I am fed up with cleaning up after everyone!
Please be kind and pin the ones you like from the original source.

Disney Cars Dream Party Celebration

I am a member of the Collective Bias®  Social Fabric® Community.  This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper insights study for Collective Bias and it client. I, Kelsey, do solemnly swear that all opinions are my own and that the birthday cakes at walmart are off the chain! #DreamParty #cbias

Mason’s birthday was a few weeks ago and if you follow me here or on facebook or instagram then you probably know we had a big Wreck it Ralph party for him. That party was not on his actual birthday though, it was a few days before. Since he is four and we had other family in town that didn’t make his party we couldn’t let his real birthday go unnoticed. I also wasn’t going to put myself through some huge ordeal of a party again either. I decided to go the easy route and buy the cake and decorations to easily throw a birthday breakfast party together before we hit the beach for the day with our visiting family.

Kool-Aid Popsicles

At the beginning of the summer my husband’s aunt gave us a fast pop maker. Up until then I had never heard of one. All I knew was the old fashioned way of freezing stuff for hours or over night, but the thing is awesome! You make your popsicle mix, pour it in and wait ten minutes! The only bad part is that it only makes two popsicles at a time and the second batch doesn’t always freeze all the way through. Since I have two popsicle eaters that means I usually get one from the second batch.

Anyways, as soon as we got it I wanted to make a popsicle for the boys. I went to the pantry to see what I could come up with and found a few Kool-Aid packets. It took a little trial and error but I came up with the perfect mix of water and sugar to make a yummy popsicle.

Our Hideous Kitchen: I Painted the Oven Drawer

I am a little embarrassed to even share these pictures. We rent our house. Our kitchen is hideous in so many ways! When we were looking for houses to rent we were on a serious time crunch. Last summer our previous landlords told us that we had 30 days to move out because their daughter was moving to Florida and wanted to live in the house we were currently renting. Gee thanks! I was pregnant and since they told us in the middle of June we wanted to be moved before the first of July so we wouldn’t have to pay them another months rent – yeah we were a little irritated about the whole thing!
We looked at numerous houses and I would be lying if I thought we might not find a place in time. I cried a few times. Did I mention I was pregnant? One house was the size of a cracker jack box and they wanted more than we were willing to pay, another reeked of smoke, another smelled like a heard of dogs and the list went on. Finally my husband saw a listing for a home on craigslist and it had an address but no pictures. We were desperate and it was in a nice neighborhood so he called the number but the lady at the real estate company said it was not available yet because there was cleaning and maintenance that had to be done. My husband told her our situation and thanks to her we were looking at the place a few days later. That place is our current house. It is on a lake and our view is wonderful. As long as I looked past the dirt, grime and hideous kitchen the house was perfect. It is a split floor plan with nice sized bedrooms and a dining room I knew would make an awesome craft room. Besides that our time crunch made anything look better than it really was. Before we moved in we painted all of the walls and gave the entire house a deep clean but since it is a rental there wasn’t much we could do about the hideous kitchen. Also since it is a rental we don’t want to put a bunch of money into it either.
(Don’t judge the following picture, I don’t have the cleanest glass cook top on earth. If you have any good ways to clean one please tell me!)

Pineapple Upside Down Bundt Cake

I worked at the Wyndham Ocean Walk Resort in Daytona Beach for almost five years and while I worked there I made a lot of friends and met people I still keep up with thanks to facebook and instagram. I worked at the front desk and someone was constantly bringing in some sort of sweet or baked good. Forget trying to diet while you worked there! One dessert that I will never forget is a pineapple upside down cake that Gina brought in. Not too long ago another one of our co-workers made a pineapple upside down cake and posted a picture on facebook. Pretty soon the comments were coming in about that unforgettable upside down cake that Gina brought in. Mind you Gina made her cake and brought it in YEARS ago! While I was in Publix the other day I saw a boxed pineapple cake mix and put it in my cart.

My Birthday Dinner at BJ’s Restaurant

This shop is part of a social shopper marketing insight
campaign with
Pollinate Media Group™ and BJ’s Restaurants but all
my opinions are my own. #pmedia #BJsrestaurants

My birthday was last week. I turned twenty-six. Three times last week I was told by complete strangers that I don’t look old enough to have three kids. I started early – what can I say? Since my husband, Mike, had to work a twelve hour shift on my birthday we went out for dinner Thursday night. We went to one of my favorite restaurants, BJ’s Restaurant. I’m not just saying this either – it really is one of my favorites! We stop in after we have been shopping in Daytona Beach and I never leave without their famous Pizookie for dessert! The combination of great food, a huge selection of food and drinks to choose from and the fun atmosphere have me hooked.

Ikea Sindal Door Mat Hacks

Yesterday I shared my IKEA door mat update and then I was curious to see if anyone else had updated theirs. I headed over to Pinterest and of course I found quite a few! Since I am gearing up to sell my Santa sacks on a daily deal site this week for Christmas in July I figured I would share a little inspiration because I won’t be doing much but sewing for the next few weeks! Indoors I feel like I should be turning on Jingle Bells and sipping hot cocoa, but outdoors it is a hot 90+ degree day! I am super thankful because my neighbor let me borrow her fan so I could stay cool while I am using my heat press which is in our garage. Working with a 380 degree press on a 90 degree day is plain stupid so I think I need to rethink that soon.
