Egg Carton Caterpillars by Balancing Home

Hello fellow Poofy Cheek readers :). I am Megan from Balancing Home. You can find me there sharing craft projecst, house stuff, mom stuff and other random musings. I left teaching to stay at home with my two little munchkins. I keep myself connected to the rest of the world by blogging. My husband and I also run an Etsy shop (Balancing Home Print Shop) selling fun prints. Today I am sharing a super easy, completely kid friendly and very cheap craft.

All you need for this project is an egg carton, some kid friendly paint, pipe cleaners and eyes (optional, because you can always just paint the eyes on).

One egg carton can give you two caterpillars. Just cut off the bottom and then cut it in half. Technically, you could get four caterpillars (baby caterpillars) if you cut the bottom in fourths. So one egg carton and two pipe cleaners can keep four kids happy. Umm...that sounds like a pretty good deal to me! I don't know about you all, but I have a three-year-old who doesn't like to sit still and is rarely quiet. Most crafts are a no-go, but the kids loves to paint. We just sat in the driveway making caterpillars and it was so much fun. I loved listening to him and having some chill one-on-one time.

Besides, he was gonna grow out of it by the end of the summer anyways. I like to be chill about these kinds of things, because we are making memories. I want him to remember the cool caterpillar he made in the driveway with mommy, not that mommy freaked out because he got paint on himself (or ruined her paintbrush). Umm...yeah, that paint brush was so fanned out that he couldn't even get it in the paint jar anymore. What you gonna do?

Any guesses as to which one was mommy's? Yeah, I had as much fun as him (or more) making them.
Because you can take the girl out of the classroom, but not the classroom out of the girl (...or something like that. You know what I mean), I thought that I would throw this out there as well: The Very Hungry Caterpillar ties in very nicely with this activity.
Now you are all set to read, craft and enjoy your little ones. Happy summer!
