Weekend Wrap Up

We got rain! Saturday, Sunday, and today!

This weekend was a mix of good and bad. Friday night we took the kids to their grandparent’s house and had a night to ourselves. We were invited to a small get together celebrating the promotion of one of my husband’s co-workers. Then Saturday we spent the day with my parents. We went to lunch and to the Daytona Flea Market.

As you all know – I finished up my dresser…

I also worked on Pirate Party stuff for Mason’s birthday.

I told you there was good and bad. The bad is that my husband woke up on Sunday with a rash and fever. He went to the doctor this morning and they put him on antibiotics. He has been sleeping the past two days. Poor guy… I’m making him some Chicken Noodle Soup to help him feel better!

Dresser Makeover Debut

Last week I shared my newest Goodwill makeover contestant who was in desperate need of a facelift and a new coat of polish. Did I mention a broken drawer? You can find all of the dresser's BEFORE pictures HERE.

What was once before a cream colored dresser with gold trim is now a lovey shade of pale green. I would share the paint color with you, but I mixed it from some paints I had in the garage. It still needs drawer pulls, but I haven’t found any that I like yet (or at least not in my price range!) I have only spent $10 on this dresser so far, so I don’t want to drop $70 just on hardware!

Now I’m off to scrub the paint from my hands and arms!

No Fireworks … Not Even Sparklers

Here in North Central Florida we have been experiencing crazy out of control wild fires due to draught. They have been so bad that when the wind is blowing just the right direction it snows ash at my house. Smoke has made it hard to breath and has drastically reduced the visibility while driving. A few days last week we actually had rain, but it came in the form of thunderstorms which only made things worse because lightening sparked more fires!

Due to the fires – they have cancelled all fireworks in the county and even have gone far enough to ban sparklers and other small fireworks. I must say it is upsetting because what is the Fourth of July without fireworks? However, I am very very very thankful for all of the men and women who have been fighting these fires to protect people and their homes. It has been in the high 90s the past week or so – paired with a fire and I can not even imagine!

So sad… all of these trees are dead!

In the meantime, I’m going to try to find another spot to go see fireworks (though most surrounding counties are also experiencing draught and wild fires!).

Praying for good, long, cold rain!

Current Goodwill Project

A few weeks ago I went into Goodwill on the search for brass candlesticks. You can see what I made with those HERE.

I also passed a dresser which was calling my name. It was marked at $7.99 with a broken drawer. I knew my handyman, AKA my dad, could fix the drawer without a problem.

The drawers need some serious TLC and most of them are missing their hardware.

The dresser itself is in need of sticker removal (someone put stickers all over the top of the dresser), and a good sanding and coat of paint.

Once I get the dresser finished I will be done with the living room redo! I think I am going to keep it a cream color to contrast against our green walls. This dresser is going to go right under our television which I finally had mounted on the wall.

I would like to have the dresser finished by Mason’s birthday party (two weeks!), but it has been SO hot I have been avoiding it!

Pinterest Food Addiction

I joined Pinterest in February and I am addicted! I am a visual person – so I love the fact that I can bookmark pictures instead of a bunch of web address mumbo jumbo. I also love all of the great photography, ideas, and inspirations! When my computer crashed last month I was even more happy to have used Pinterest because I didn’t loose the ideas I had compiled for Mason’s upcoming Pirate Party!

I’m Back with a SURPRISE!!!

Well it is been a little less than a month since my last blog post. I’ve been tackled by research papers and homework this semester! With less than a year left to receiving my Bachelor’s degree – I found that this road will not always be easy. Balancing everything can be a lot of hard work so I had to briefly eliminate a few extracurricular activities such as blogging and ETSY.

When I quit ETSY I mean that I closed down my shop Poofy Boutique, and now that I have done it I might keep it closed F-O-R-E-V-E-R. I can’t believe I would say that, however I had time to work on some other things during my time ‘off’. Are you ready to see what I have been busy creating?

PARTY PRINTABLES FOR A NEW ETSY SHOP!

SNOWCONE & LOLLIPOP DESIGNS

My son Mason will be two years old on July 1st and we are having a Pirate themed party, so I was inspired to make my own printables for his party. I figured that the entire process would be wonderful for my portfolio since I am going to school for graphic and web design. I enjoyed it so much and found it very rewarding as I printed everything out and put it together, that I decided I wouldn’t stop there.

I am SO happy to be back in blog world and I missed it dearly! If anyone has some original party theme ideas to help me build up my shop I would love to hear them!
