Thoughtful Thursday & My Easter Decorations

Easter isn’t like Christmas or Halloween, but I still love to decorate. As a kid I remember my mom had a basket she filled with ceramic eggs my grandma had made. I’m not sure where it is now – but I wish I had it.

This year I saw the coolest idea at That’s My Letter – and I admit – I copied! I couldn’t resist this great idea. Jaime used fake turf as a table runner.

I went to Lowe’s and bought some of that ugly green outdoor grass carpet stuff. I bought one linear foot for $5.56 and covered both of my tables and entryway table with it. It might look ugly as flooring … but it looks darn good as decoration!

For the bucket (which I got last year at the Target dollar spot), I put my usual vase inside of it, then put crumpled newspaper around it. Covered the top with Spanish moss to hide the newspaper and stuck some plastic Easter eggs from last year in it. Cost = $3.50 for Spanish moss, the rest I already had!

For the entryway bookshelf I used more of the green grass carpet stuff and then made an Easter printable in a 5x7 $3 frame from Wal-Mart. Get the printable HERE. I had everything else.

The only things I bought for my entryway shelf were the ceramic bird (on clearance at Michael’s for $1.25) and the ‘Welcome Spring’ sign ($3.50 at Target right now!).

Last but not least, I found a cheese dome at Goodwill a few weeks ago for $3 and couldn’t pass it up. After just reading this post at Thrifty Decor Chick I had to bring the ole thing home with me. A coat of spray paint and it was lovely. I put some Spanish moss and plastic eggs from last year under it. (BTW – found the cool metal scoop thing at Goodwill too for $0.50)

Hope you enjoyed my Easter decor!

{Link-Up Time}

Since I am currently writing two blogs. This one and Everyday is a Celebration, I decided to do a joint link up party so you can add your links on either blog! Please join in the fun.

I’d love to see what you have been doing!

  • Please link directly to the post. You can link anything you created – a craft, recipe, party, menu, etc.

Homemade Sidewalk Chalk Tutorial

Last weekend the boys and I made homemade sidewalk chalk! Wyatt especially enjoyed being able to stir the ingredients together and watch the colors come to life. This would be a perfect addition to any Easter basket, or a fun craft for a beautiful spring day.

You Will Need:

  • 1 cup of water
  • 3-4 tablespoons of tempra paint
  • 1 1/2 cups plaster of paris
  • silicone baking mold
  • old bucket or bowl

FYI - I got my silicone mold at Target in the Dollar spot area since I knew I wouldn’t want to use it for baking after making chalk with it. This is also a project made for the outdoors since it can get a bit messy! Luckily everything is washable though.

Put the water in the bucket, and then add the tempra paint. Stir.

Then add the plaster of paris.

Stir until the mixture is the consistency of frosting. You may need to add a bit more water or plaster.

Then pour it into the mold. Let the mixture set. You can remove it from the mold after one hour.

Then let the chalk dry out for at least 24 hours. Then Ta-Da!

Theme of the Week – Spring!

Spring is officially here. Shoot it might as well be summer to me since yesterday was a record breaking 89 degrees here in Central Florida. Today we’re due for some spring showers and boy am I excited. It hasn’t rained in weeks.

With Spring comes new life and happiness. I love all of the colors, fresh foods, grilling out, gardening, Easter decorations, and get togethers. Before I blink again it will be summer!

Weekend Wrap Up

I had this weekend off and Mike had to work. Every other weekend one of us works and the other has off to watch the boys – that is just how it goes! I try to get Sunday off so we at least have one day off together during the week.

Despite the fact Mike had to work, we had a great weekend! I worked in the garden, the boys and I made handmade sidewalk chalk (I’ll be sharing later in the week!), I got some Easter crafts done, and we got out in the sun at a local air show. I’ve been saving the least fun activities for tonight – I have a midterm in my Journalism class and I have to write my own obituary!?!? I think I’ll die a happy old woman whose life was filled with family. Cause of death? I’m not sure yet.

Wyatt was absolutely thrilled when he got to sit in the helicopter at the air show.

Moments like these just melt my heart. Brothers embracing in a hug. I hope they will always hug tight like this and be best friends.

We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day. It was in the high eighties with a breeze. I will admit I forgot all about sunscreen since we haven’t had to use it yet this year, and we all have red cheeks.

Mason was hot and tired by the end of the afternoon. As soon as we got in the car he was out like a light.

Wyatt had so much fun making sidewalk chalk. This was a great project for him – there were no fears of a big mess – everything was washable and we were outside.

Easter decorations are out! One month until the bunny comes!

My tomato plants are flowering! That means we will have some tomatoes very soon.

If you are like me, you hate going to the grocery store. I try to make one trip a week by planning a weeks worth of meals in advance. Not only does it keep me out of the grocery store, it keeps me from buying a bunch of stuff I don’t need.

  • Monday – Chicken Pot Pie
  • Tuesday – Taco Salad
  • Wednesday – Brats with potato and pasta salads
  • Thursday - Lasagna
  • Friday – Chicken Gyros
  • Saturday  - Cheeseburger Pie
  • Sunday – Eating out for Sister-in-laws Birthday Dinner

Enjoy – I hope everyone had a great weekend!

Week 3 of Project Simplify – Kids Clothes and Toys

Project Simplify – Week 3

This was the perfect week for sorting and getting rid of kids clothes and toys. I have been preparing for a children’s consignment sale for about a month now. I don’t have any ‘before’ pictures because I already had gone through clothes and toys. However, I do have pictures of my truck all packed up with clothes and toys and their rooms today!

Clothes were in the front seat – and both of the boys are in the back there somewhere!

Not pictured – 2 strollers, lots of toys, an infant bouncer, shoes, socks, baby blankets, etc!

Not all of the items sold in the sale, so they are currently being stored in the garage. I’m planning a garage sale in a couple of weeks!

Here are the boys’ rooms now -

Jump over and see all of the participants who linked up to Project Simplify this week. I’m so thankful I decided to participate. It is like spring cleaning one week at a time!

Random Friday Favorites

Today on Favorite Friday I am showing you one of my new favorite websites, a phone app, a workout, and an Etsy shop!!

#1 - Pinterest is a website that has already sucked a couple hours from my life (even though I just joined a week or so ago). It is a way to bookmark pictures. I love it because I can bookmark craft ideas from other blogs and easily find them without having to go through text links I have saved to my favorites. The site even allows you to categorize your pictures. So far I have focused on Easter and party ideas!

You can follow my pins HERE!

#2Mike and I took the plunge and bought smart phones – we each got a Droid X. (I guess they are real smart because between then and now my email got hacked and a couple hundred emails were sent to people on my contact list.)

Anyways, I downloaded an app called My Fitness and it is great! In my venture to loose a few pounds before swimsuit season I got the app and use it almost everyday to keep track of my calories and workouts. When you first use the app it ask for your current weight, height, and activity level. Then you tell it your goal weight and it calculates the number of calories you should eat per day to achieve your goal. I haven’t really been extreme about it – but I have lost a couple of pounds and it really makes you realize what you consume each day!

Wait – I almost forgot the coolest part! You can scan barcodes on your food items and it will automatically populate the calories and other nutritional information for the item. Super cool!

#3 – I joined a gym at the beginning of the month and tried Zumba for the first time on Tuesday. I tell you what – it is SO much fun! I’m sure I looked like a total idiot since I didn’t know the moves and had to keep looking around to see what to do next, but I love music and dancing so it didn’t even seem like I was working out. Though I know I was because I was sweating like crazy!

The teacher was awesome too – she is a super beautiful latina chica with long dark beautiful hair and a body to die for. If that isn’t inspiring I don’t know what is. Maybe in a few months I can have her banging body and zumba moves too :) So you know where I will be from 11-12? ZUMBA!

#4 – The last of my Friday favorites is the Etsy shop Mommy Holly. I bought some tags from Holly back in September and I’m getting ready to order more. She had awesome customer service and quick shipping time! I just love her new Easter bunny tags and the ‘Handmade’ tag is my all time favorite. I’ll be ordering both of these for sure!

Brown Paper Tags - cute bunny silhouette

Brown Paper Tags - handmade birdies

LARGE pack of Brown Paper Tags - knife fork spoon

You may remember that I used one of her ‘handmade’ tags HERE during my gifts in a jar post.

What are some of your favorite things?? I’d love to know!

Thoughtful Thursday Link Up #1

Today is the first Thoughtful Thursday! I’m super excited and hope you will join in the fun, and LINK UP!

Remember when I shared the tutorial on the Kids Art Board Display? If you missed the tutorial go HERE.

Today I’m going to share what I made with the leftover pieces of wood.

I used my cricut to put ‘Family’ on the longer board in yellow vinyl. It is now sitting on my entryway shelf.

As for the shorter board, I used my cricut to cut out ‘spring’ in purple vinyl. It is now attached to my wreath which was once bare but is now perfect!

I’d love to see what you have been doing!
